COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson men’s basketball team defeated Brescia 77-59 at Biggers Sports Center on Wednesday night. The Blue Raiders were able end the game on 16-2 run after leading by only four points with 5:28 left in the game.
Lindsey Wilson (2-1) managed to shoot 47 percent from the floor on 30-of-64 attempts as they held a slight 47-45 advantage in rebounds. The Blue Raider defense limited Brescia (2-3) to shooting just 29 percent from the floor after making 20-of-67 shots from the field. The game saw 41 turnovers and 23 steals between the two teams as Brescia held managed one more turnover and steal than LWC in the game to pick up the win.
Three Blue Raiders recorded double-digit points as Kel Stotts paced the Blue Raiders scoring a season-high 20 points. Pierre Lys and Shakaris Laney both added ten points as Laney produced eight rebounds and Lys added seven of his own. Fredens Deneus tied for a game-high nine rebounds as he added nine points.
Lindsey Wilson opened the game on an 11-0 run that lasted until the 14:23 mark of the first half. Three different Blue Raiders scored on the run as Kel Stotts led the way with five points and Shakaris Laney had four points.
LWC would increase their lead to 23-6 with just less than ten minutes left in the half. An 11-2 Brescia run over the next four minutes of action would cut the Blue Raiders lead to eight at 25-17 with just 6:03 minutes left in the half.
From there the two squads would trade baskets to a 29-21 LWC advantage with 2:29 left on the clock. Lindsey Wilson would close the half on an 8-2 run as Stotts managed to score an uncontested layup as time expired in the half, increasing their lead to 37-23 at the break.
The Blue Raiders shot 43 percent from the floor while connecting on just 1-of-13 of their attempts from three point range. The LWC defense limited the Bearcats to making just 8-of-33 shots in the half as Lindsey Wilson held a slight 27-24 advantage in rebounds. LWC punished Brescia down low, outscoring the Bearcats 28-10 in the paint.
Stotts led all players in the half with 13 points as he added one block. Lys and Laney both added six points and one steal in the half as Lys and Cam Oztamur added six boards.
Oztamur scored the Blue Raiders first five points of the second half but Brescia managed for points of their own to keep the Lindsey Wilson lead at 15 points with 3:30 gone in the half. A strong effort by the Blue Raiders would allow LWC to take a 22 point lead at 55-33 with 12:14 remaining in the game.
Brescia would mount a massive 18-4 run over the next five minutes, trimming the Blue Raider lead to just nine points at 59-50 with 8:18 to play.
Another 7-2 run by Brescia would limit the LWC lead to just four points with 5:28 remaining but Lindsey Wilson would put the game away during the final five minutes of action as they were able to score 16 points while holding the Bearcats to just two points.
